GIS Day 2009 in Merced, CA

The event was sponsored by CentralCal URISA, and hosted by the San Joaquin Valley Regional GIS Council. The event was free to anyone interested in learning more about GIS and over 60 people attended during the day-long event.
RuthAnne Harbison, GIS Coordinator for the City of Merced, welcomed everyone and introduced Rich Green, co-chair of the San Joaquin Valley Regional GIS Council who served as master of ceremonies for the day. Mark Clark, his co-chair for the council, presented Tips-N-Tricks in ArcMap. Staff from the City of Merced and the City of Fresno also presented projects using GIS in their cities.
Merced Irrigation District shared information on how they are using GIS in their organization. Mike Martinez from ESRI gave a demonstration on ArcGIS Explorer. There were also presentations from California Survey and Drafting Supplies on Trimble GPS, Azteca on City Works, DuraTech Inc. showcased the Ricoh GPS camera, and Vestra Resources with a custom web application.
The City of Merced also hosted a map gallery display in the Civic Center lobby in recognition of Geography Awareness Week. Maps on display were from several City departments, Merced County Association of Governments, and Merced County Planning Department.
