“GIS Day 2016, hosted by the City of Merced and sponsored by CentralCal URISA, was held Wednesday, November 18th.  Attendees walked through the exhibits and learned about how GIS is used by Merced County Association of Governments with transportation projects; the Planning Department with various projects on display; Public Works and how infrastructure is maintained using maps;  Recycling and how areas of the city are mapped for collection; Water Conservation with tips on saving water; UC Merced Spatial Analysis and Research Center (SpARC) with research projects from the UC; Merced Police Department with an online demonstration of crime analysis; the Welcome Center with maps of activities, hiking trails, and places to see in Merced County; Merced Irrigation District with maps and information on water conservation, and the City Fire Department with information on fire prevention programs in the city.  A map gallery in the city hall lobby, which is on display all month, had several visitors.  Attendees enjoyed the snacks and beverages provided by CentralCal URISA and pins and handouts from Esri, Inc.  Exhibitors and attendees enjoyed the open house and learning about GIS.”
